Drill Weekend will be October 1st and 2nd in support of the Navy Mile. Last year we took 1st and 2nd place.
Happy summer to all Sea Cadet Divisions in the NCCNL family! The following is an update to the Navy Mile on Pennsylvania Avenue, coming up on 2 October, 2016:
1. It's time for all Sea Cadets to get ready for the race!
o Register for the event! Not only will there be mile competitions to win, a push up contest is also available for registration. The latter will provide funding for the Navy Safe Harbor Foundation, supporting Navy and Coast Guard wounded warriors. As with last year, prizes will go to individual competitors as well as units participating!!
o Registration is up and running at www.navymile.com
o Please spread the word where/when-ever you can!
2. Crowdsourcing (ie., unit fund raising!!).
o Proceeds from the Navy Mile assist the National Capital Council of the Navy League to fund our Sea Cadet units (you!!). Besides sponsorship and registration revenue, we are encouraging all Sea Cadet units to leverage the power of crowd sourcing.
o The following links are open for units to reach out to friends and family to assist in raising money!
o Any dollar amount is welcome! Half the proceeds will help fund the race, while the other half will be split evenly between the unit and USNSCC HQ. This is a great way to enable your unit to do more despite ever more stringent funding from other sources. Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraising units.
3. Volunteers. Last year, the Sea Cadets and their leaders set the standard for outstanding volunteer work. Kindly anticipate a similar level of effort, with the need for help at packet pick up, race day set up, pack up and clean up. Once again Mission BBQ will be providing post event lunch for all volunteers
4. Friday Night reception. We will be hosting a reception on Friday night at the Navy Memorial. Jim Ryun, former world record holder for the mile, Olympian and Congressman will be our guest speaker. We will be requesting Sea Cadet participation for this special event!
